1000 Word Report - Figuring out the Fiscal Cliff
If you've been paying attention to the news, the US was set to plung of something called the "fiscal cliff." This is the term that is used to refer to a series of tax hikes and spending cuts that some argued were severe enough to plung the US back into a recession, even though it would have simulateously erased much of our deficif. A last minute deal was negotiated to avoid it, but some of the deal involved simply delaying the spending cuts, among other things. It also did not address the debt ceiling.
Since this will be a dominant topic this semester, I want you to develop a topic about some aspect of the fiscal cliff. It can be anything as long as it includes critical analysis of it.
Here is a link to the various stories I've posted about it on the blog.
You might want to consider looking through them to get familar with it. Find some aspect of the cliff that seems meaty and interesting. I'll assign a weekly writing assignment on the topic relatively soon in order to nudge you along.
In the meantime, feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
Be sure to write this in MLA style and use at least three references.
